I read a series called the Underland Chronicals. I read it every years because, well, it's amazing. Same author as the Hunger Games.
In the 3rd book, we meet a character who hates war, who learned from the animals of the Jungle that fighting should only be used as a last defense. Instead, they hide, they threaten, they make themselves look bigger, or they flee, before fighting becomes an option.
Reminds me of these morays.
